Just found out that one of my images placed 15th in the WPJA (Wedding Photojournalist Association) quarterly competition. They are an international association with some very very good photographers so I am understandably very proud to have been considered worthy!
Here's a short slideshow of some of my favourites from Tom and Helen's Wedding I shot last September at the Sandy Cove Hotel in North Devon. I was recovering from Swineflu at the time so had been slightly nervous about my fitness. Fortunately the adrenaline rush you get when shooting a Wedding all but put an end to this and we had a fantastic day. The Best man's speech was possibly one of the funniest I heard all year though focusing pretty heavily on Tom's height, or lack of it! They were relentless!
I have known Tom and Helen for a few years now as Helen's sister Lucy married one of my best friends Billy earlier in the year. It was an honour to photograph both of their Weddings and a great relief, I imagine, for Russ (their Dad) who got to marry off both his daughters within 6 months of one another!
The first dance was a great spectacle, and though I'd been allowed to put down my cameras and have a beer, or two, I did retrieve them from the car to get a few shots. It became fairly clear they'd been practicing for some time and they even performed an encore just to prove the first one hadn't been a fluke.
Good friend Amy Newton provides the track to this slideshow, she also performed at the Wedding and went down an absolute storm.
I just received a nice email from Hannah, who is the Wedding Planner for 'The Deck', asking me if I was happy for them to use this image from Carl and Lucy's Wedding in their marketing for next year. The Deck is a stunning modern venue situated on the roof of the National Theatre in London It boast views over the Thames and the City and was a real pleasure to photograph. With any luck this will lead to a few more Weddings there in the future.
Last week I received an email from a Bride whose Wedding I shot last year to ask whether she might use one of her Wedding Photos to run alongside an article she was writng for the Daily Mail on 'Finding the Perfect Man'. It ran in the Thursday Edition of the Mail but can also be viewed by following this link to the Daily Mail Website
The article is a fun read and I'm so glad Bridget, finally found her perfect man and chose me to document their Wedding for them.
A few weeks ago I shot a Wedding for my good friends Jon and Kat at the Saunton Sands Golf Club in North Devon. The weather was absolutely dreadful but I'm always keen for a challenge. The wind actually made for some really fun shots and we were blessed with a small window of good weather when the sunset. Jon, or JC as we know him, runs a local art gallery called the JC Gallery He's been selling a lot of my Ltd Editon prints of North Devon landscapes recently and it was an absolute pleasure to return some of his good will. Here's a fairly large selection of images I liked from their Big Day.
I've been slacking a bit on the blogging front, as I've been desperately trying to clear the backlog from the summer before Christmas. Anyway here are a few images from Marc and Laura's Wedding back at the start of September. They were married at Chelsea Registry Office and had a small reception at the intimate Cheyne Walk Brasserie by the River Thames.
Carl + Lucy | The National Theatre | 17th October 2009
I had the pleasure of spending the day yesterday with Carl and Lucy photographing their Wedding which was held at 'The Deck', situated on the roof of the National Theatre in London. Carl is from New Zealand and unfortunately his mother was not able to attend the Wedding. I promised to send them on their honeymoon to NZ with a few images to show her so here they are.
Here are some images from Enda and Liz's Wedding at Blenheim Palace which I can't believe was only a few weeks ago (I've shot 5 Weddings since in what has been a 9 Wedding month) Liz and Enda's Wedding was, despite being a dream to photograph, a meeting of old friends. I knew Liz and her Bridesmaid Gemma when I was 16 and hadn't seen either of them for nearly 10 years. I also got to work with my good friend Alex Baxter who had been hired to shoot the Wedding Video. Here's a few of my favourite images.
Simon and Zoey were married yards away from Simon's family home in Farway in Devon. During the service just as the Bride and Groom uttered the words 'I will' one of the younger members of the congregation broke the silence, piping up with the imortal words of 'What's she doing mummy?' The whole church erupted into laughter and set the tone for a most enjoyable day. Here are some of my favourites
STEVE + EMMA | NEWBURY MANOR HOTEL | 7th AUGUST 2009
Steve and Emma got married at the Newbury Manor Hotel in Berkshire. They had found me through my younger brother Richard who was also the Hairdresser and chief Bubble Blower for the day. A large Bouncy Castle in the shape of a Purple Dragon kept the small army of kids entertained during the reception and as the Pimms took effect many of the adults!
WARREN + DONNA | COCKHAVEN MANOR | 1st AUGUST 2009
The Saturday before last I had the pleasure of photographing Warren and Donna's Wedding at Cockhaven Manor in Bishopsteignton near Teignmouth. It was the first Wedding of what is going to be a very busy month for me with 9 Weddings booked in before the 31st. Got to love a challenge! Here are some of my favourite images from the day.
